| Physical and Chemical Properties | Chemical formula Ni(HCOO)2 · 2H2O. Molecular weight 184.76. Nickel formate, also known as nickel formate, is a green monoclinic crystal or crystalline powder with a relative density of 2.154. When heated carefully to 130~140 °c, it becomes anhydrous salt. It decomposes to nickel, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, hydrogen, water and methane at 180-200 °c. Soluble in water. It is obtained by the interaction of nickel sulfate solution with sodium formate or by the dissolution of nickel hydroxide in formic acid. For the manufacture of nickel and nickel catalysts. |

| Organic acid nickel catalyst | Nickel formate or nickel oxalate is decomposed by heating without contacting air or in a nitrogen stream. Mild in nature and good in selectivity. Mainly used for oil hydrogenation to make hardened oil. Generally, diatomite or silica gel is used as the carrier. With the addition of diatomite nickel nitrate aqueous solution under constant stirring, dropping ammonium formate or ammonium oxalate solution, the precipitation of nickel formate or nickel oxalate evenly deposited on the surface of diatomite. Wash nitrate ions with water, dry, dehydrate first at 140 ℃, and keep at 170 ℃ for 2-3 hours to fully dehydrate. At 210 ℃, anhydrous nickel formate or nickel oxalate decomposes to release hydrogen, carbon dioxide or nitrogen to form an active nickel catalyst. |
